One year ago I was feeling sluggish and unfit after 10 months of a distinct lack of motivation for exercise. While throughly depressed one day I found your website and rang Anne and started Boot Camp that day. 6 weeks later I was feeling so much fitter and more alive and full of beans and had enjoyed the experience of group exercise with a difference so much that I signed up for two more terms of Boot Camp at Carlton so that by the beginning of 2008 I had my buzz back, a spring in my step and was feeling thoroughly motivated from Boot Camp.
In fact I felt so great that a few months later I decided to challenge myself and signed up for the Melbourne marathon. I have been a runner on and off for 4/5 years and ran London marathon in 2005 (you may remember I'm a Pommy!) and have done several half marathons and managed two (rather slow) 10km runs in Melbourne since moving here 18months ago. So there it was, the challenge was set, my second marathon was to be in Australia! I found a training program to suit me that lasted 16 weeks. I managed to stick to the training program almost to the letter apart from one week when I came down with flu but that didn't worry me too much. I got in 5 x 30+km runs with my maximum run at 35km. Then this Sunday the sun came up, as did the wind and the temperature and I joined the 3500 marathon runners on Batman Avenue at 7.30am for the 31st Melbourne marathon. I am very happy to report that I finished in my goal time of 3:49:37, beating my first marathon time by 16 minutes and suffered no major injuries or dehydration.
Just to keep the challenges going, my boyfriend and I are cycling Around the Bay in a Day (100km route) this coming Sunday and we'll be tearing round a mountain bike 3 hour lap race in Anglesea the following weekend so there's no let up yet!
You guys really gave me the kick start I needed to get back into being fit again and I think I'll be staying fit from now on, so thank you SO much! Boot Camp was great fun and I have taken the motivation you gave me and try to pass it on to others (3 girlfriends joined boot camp after my recommendation) as well as taking friends out for jogs and squats!!
