Tara - 12 weeks
When I first became a personal trainer I was fit and healthy, everything a trainer should be. But it didn’t take long for things to change. I began working at a women’s gym and at first it was great. Unfortunately; this gym had a deal with a local donut shop, so we had unlimited access to hot chocolates and donuts. This was a treat that soon became a habit and before I knew it I had put on over 8kgs and was at my heaviest weight ever. I knew I needed to do something but I wasn’t sure how.

I joined Boot Camp and this was where I met Anne Hatfield.  I left the women’s gym and began to work at Serious Fitness and after my 22nd birthday I decided to take up the challenge. Anne was fantastic. She guided me through everything I needed to do and she encouraged me all the way.

My partner Phil was also wonderful. I have always had terrible posture and he was always reminding me to stand up straight and be proud. He also helped me with removing all the bad foods from my hands (including throwing a cookie across the car park so I wouldn’t eat it!).

One of the major obstacles that I faced was that it seemed as soon as I started on the 12 week Serious Results package, everyone decided to have an event ranging from birthdays to weddings. Every weekend was booked with some kind of get together but I didn’t let that get in my way. Before we went I made sure I either had a healthy meal and packed some healthy snacks like a protein bar to get me through, or I would pick the healthiest option I could from the selection available. If I did have a day where I over indulged I made sure I got straight back on track rather then throw in the towel and give up which I would have done prior to starting training with Anne and Bruce. Also, being a trainer people would assume that I have the knowledge and the access to a gym all the time, but I’m just like anybody else. My days are filled with early morning and late night shifts and I get tired too just like everyone else. Having the know how doesn’t mean you can always put it into practice!  So what I had to do was become a little bit more organised and make sure that I put in the work diary that this was my time to train and prepare some healthy meals for the day.  Fortunately, Anne and Bruce were more than happy to help.

When I saw my final pictures next to my before photos I was shocked. I couldn’t believe how I looked before.  I now stand up tall and proud and feel like the way a trainer should. My clients now say how inspired they are by what I have done, and are commenting on how fantastic I look. As a trainer I am meant to be an example of health and fitness and now thanks to the team at Serious Fitness I am exactly that. With my new found confidence and a body that I am proud to show off, I am now going to take this one step further and compete in the sports model category at the Melbourne Natural Titles early next year. With all that I have learned this is something that not only I can pass on to clients but continue on this journey for the rest of my life.
