Hot Topic: How to survive the festive season
You’ve been watching what you eat for the last few months and making some great progress.  Now with the festive season around the corner…no need to panic…these tips will help get you through!

Plan to stay on track

When it comes to this time of the year, most people think that they are destined for failure.  This does not need to be the case.  As with everyone’s busy lifestyle, the trick is to treat it like any other appointment and stick to it!  Make it as important as catching up with an old friend.  That way, you will continue on your journey to success.

Skip the alcohol

Tis the season to be jolly….
Whilst enjoying a few drinks with friends may be a nice way to relax, be mindful of how it can easily sabotage your efforts to stay trim.  If you consider this….if you were to drink only two glasses of wine or two bottles of beer (such as Pure Blonde), you would be looking at consuming around 200 calories with little or no nutritional value. (that means, no carbohydrates, no protein, no fat…nothing your body can use for it’s normal every day function).
Now, 200 calories might not seem like much, but it is when you consider that you could have eaten an entire meal for that! A quarter of a BBQ chicken without the skin along with a salad is around 200 calories and far more satisfying than 2 glasses of alcohol.
To burn off those two glasses of wine you would need to at least go for a walk or do some resistance training for 30 minutes.
So next time you are reaching for a glass of wine this festive season, think about whether it is worth it!
