Pip Raises
If you are looking to really tone up your upper body, then this exercise is awesome! Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s easy….But the results are well worth the effort.
Start this exercise by choosing a relatively light weight, this will reduce any stress to your lower back.
1. Start with your arms out in front of you, slightly bent, palms facing upwards. The dumbbells should be touching.Make sure that you hold your abdominals tight and your elbows are in line with your shoulders.
You should feel a real squeeze in the upper chest as well as the front of your shoulders (front deltoid) at this point of the movement.
2. Slowly rotate your elbows out as well as your arms so that your hands are now at shoulder height (your hand placement should look like you are riding a big Harley) with your palms will be facing the ground. Keep those abdominals tight!Breathe out on this phase of the movement.
You should be feeling a burn in the outer parts of your shoulders (medial deltoid) at this point.
This completes the first upward phase of the movement.
3. Slightly lower your arms, rotating your elbows.Bring both hands up together until you have the weights touching themselves.Your palms will be facing the ceiling like in the first photo. (and the side view)Breathe in at this point.
The great thing about this exercise is that it works a whole group of muscles of the upper body and if you have been reading any of our newsletters, then you know what that means….It will burn lots of body fat!
We’ve never known anyone to complain about that!LOL!
